About Us
St. Luke’s is a mission church in the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield with a long and storied history.
We’re named in honor of St. Luke, the healer, the physician. If someone asked you, besides Jesus, who was the most influential person in the early years of Christianity, what would you say? Saint Peter or Saint Paul would be good answers, as would any of the apostles. One person you might not think of including would be Saint Luke. However, it could be argued that he had as much influence as any other early Christian leader in the spread of the gospel. He wrote both the Gospel of Saint Luke about the life of Jesus and then, the Acts of the Apostles which is a history of the first five years of the Church. Together, those books make up more than a quarter of the New Testament. This means Luke wrote more of the New Testament than any other author, including Saint Paul. When you stop to consider how frequently these books are read at Mass or how many times people have prayed with those texts, his influence is enormous! We are honored to have such a role model and patron as St. Luke.
We’re a mission church. St. Luke’s congregation gathers together for corporate worship and supports the life of their church like any parish. While we still conform to the Doctrine, Discipline and Worship of the Episcopal Church, we’re shepherded by our Priest in Charge, Canon Wells. Our Bishop’s Committee is responsible for the management of the operational affairs of the Mission.
Our 2025 Bishop’s Committee: David Bartold, Mary Denney, Rachel Jachino, Bill Jackson, Wendy Lyons, Todd Reid, Vern Taylor
Today, our mighty little church is in the midst of renewal in four key areas:
- Hospitality: Embracing everyone who crosses our threshold with the welcoming love of Jesus Christ.
- Communications: Connecting St. Luke’s family with each other and the community we serve.
- Sacred Space: Keeping St. Luke’s a holy space, ready for worship.
- Building & Grounds: Maintaining St. Luke’s church so it can fulfill its mission to the glory of God.
Almighty and ever-living God, ruler of all things in heaven and on earth, hear our prayers for this parish family of Saint Luke’s Church. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to one heart and one mind within your Holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Join us for worship and fellowship one Sunday or Wednesday.
We’d love to meet you.
All are welcome here!
